Carmichael Roberts, Chairman
As a partner at North Bridge Venture Partners, Carmichael's scientific expertise has positioned the firm to capitalize on breakthroughs in chemistry and materials. Now as chairman of Sensable, Carmichael leverages his skills as business leader, entrepreneur and technologist. Previously, Carmichael co-founded and served as the President and CEO of Arsenal Medical, a company that develops implantable medical materials. He has co-founded several other ventures, including Nano-Terra, an electronics and industrial materials company and Ancora, a carbohydrate materials company making vaccines. Prior to his entrepreneurial career, Carmichael worked in business development at GelTex Pharmaceuticals and in new product and business development at Dow Chemical. Carmichael holds a BS and PhD in organic chemistry from Duke University, completed his postdoctoral National Science Foundation fellowship at Harvard University and also holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Marcus Lovell Smith, CEO
Marcus joined Sensable from Microbia, Inc., an industrial biotechnology company developing unique microbes capable of producing high value chemicals from renewable raw materials. Marcus was CEO of Microbia and arranged its sale to DSM in 2010. Prior to Microbia, Marcus established and funded a series of start-ups in different industries, including telecommunications, the environmental sector, utilities and financial services. Many of these companies were based on creative new concepts and innovative products. Marcus received an MA from Oxford University.
Tom DeWolfe, Vice President of Manufacturing and Customer Support
Tom joined Sensable in 2011, with 23 years of experience in high tech manufacturing; in his career Tom has brought multiple products to market. Prior to joining Sensable, Tom was Director of Operations/Manufacturing/Supply Chain at Dataupia Inc., a supplier of data warehouse appliances. Tom has also held positions as Director of Manufacturing/Customer Support at Revivio Inc., a provider of a continuous data protection appliance. He was Director of Operations at Storigen Inc, Synapix Inc, and also Avid Technology, where he started manufacturing operations in USA and in Ireland. Tom is a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Kristin Larson, CPA, Vice President of Finance
Kristin joined Sensable in early 2011 from Upromise, which was acquired by Sallie Mae, where she served as controller. Prior to Upromise, she served as the controller at a number of high-tech companies, including Bridgeline Software, SoundBite Communications, Blue Dolphin Group and RadGuard. Her diverse industry experience includes computer hardware and software, telecommunications, internet commerce and financial services, and includes both startups and public companies. She began her career as an auditor in Public Accounting at Ernst & Young. Kristin has a BS in Accounting from the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond.
Joan Lockhart, Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Joan joined SensAble with more than 20 year's experience in high-technology marketing and sales in a broad range of industries, from computer graphics to enterprise software. She has a solid background in management, sales channel strategy, communications and corporate branding, working for both emerging and large, established international companies. Prior to joining SensAble, Joan was Vice President of Marketing at GeoTrust, where she helped grow the company's revenues through online sales and innovative marketing programs, resulting in its succesful sale to VeriSign. Prior to GeoTrust, she held senior marketing and sales positions with RSA Security, Convergent Networks, MCK Communications, PictureTel and Avid, all companies that established industry leadership in their markets, including two successful Initial Public Offerings.
Mark Tatkow, Vice President of Business Development
Mark joined SensAble in 2004 as Director of Sales for the Americas. He has nearly 20 years of sales and sales management experience with an emphasis on both indirect channel development and major account/OEM sales. Product sales have ranged from high-volume, standard product to high-value, tailored solutions in the fields of data acquisition and image processing. He has held senior sales, business development, and marketing management positions at LTX, Data Translation, Analogic, and Fibersense Technology. Mark holds an MBA from Babson College and a BSEE from Boston University.
Joe Wisnewski, Vice President of Engineering
Joe joined SensAble in 2006. Prior to SensAble, Joe was VP of Engineering at Availant (Lakeview Technology), a premier developer of high-availability software and services. Joe has also held positions as Vice President of Engineering at iPhrase Technologies, Director of Engineering at Wildfire Communications, Bowstreet, Inc, and Avid Technology. Joe holds a BS in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an MS in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He has a 20-year track record of building and managing teams who have delivered mission-critical solutions in video and film editing, broadcast television operations , defense, high performance computing, telecommunications and enterprise information management.
